"If the S&Ps 500 index closes below 1265 on Wednesday, it will have closed below its 40-month moving average for the first time since 1982. It did not close below that moving average in the crash of 1987. It did not close below that moving average in the mini bear market of 1990. It did not close below that moving average in the 1994 decline. As of today, one day away from the monthly close, it is below that moving average."
